Magellan Rubin is a director known for crafting emotionally charged stories that are visually distinctive. He draws from his upbringing as a triplet in a big family to depict complex characters and explore themes of identity and desire. In a world full of fake news, he stands out for preferring work that’s unapologetically truthful.
Following a stint as a cinematographer early in his career, Magellan yearned to tell the stories himself and began working on television commercials. His first major assignment was directing a short film for the Wyoming Health Department about the dangers of secondhand smoke on children. His gut-wrenching portrayal of a single mother coming to grips with the impact her tobacco usage was having on her ailing son earned him a reputation for tackling social issues with dramatic fluency. He’s since gone on to direct commercials for leading brands like Mercedes-Benz and music videos with major artists like G-Eazy.
Magellan is currently pursuing opportunities in episodic television and developing his own narrative projects. When he’s not on set, he dedicates his time to tutoring children experiencing homelessness and mountain biking. He resides in Los Angeles, CA.
